Christian Poulsen, born on 28 February 1980 in Asnæs, Denmark, was a defensive midfielder and one of the best players of his generation in Scandinavia. He won two UEFA Cups with Sevilla, the DFB League Cup with Schalke 04, and played for Juventus, Liverpool, and Ajax — a career that spanned the top leagues in Europe. He was the first player ever to be named Danish Footballer of the Year in consecutive years in 2005 and 2006. With 92 international caps, many as captain — Poulsen was the heart of the Danish national team for over a decade.
